At the moment, Sony's line of smartphones in the 2020 lineup consists of four models - the flagship Xperia 1 II, the mid-range Xperia 10 II, the state-owned Xperia L4, and the Xperia 8 Lite. Soon they should be joined by the successor to last year's "compact" flagship Xperia 5. The first image of a potential Xperia 5 II was published by famous insider Evan Blass.
The alleged Xperia 5 II looks - and there are no surprises here - like a smaller version of the current flagship Xperia 1 II, although there are still a few differences.
As you can see, the ZEISS T * optics remained, which can only be welcomed, but the ToF (Time of Flight) 3D module for more accurate determination of the scene depth, which in the Xperia 1 II is located exactly under the ZEISS logo, is missing here. Otherwise, the Xperia 5 II's camera should be just as functional as the Xperia 1 II. Another proof of this is the physical button for controlling the camera on the right side. A dedicated shutter button has always been a hallmark of Xperia phones.
But if you look closely, you will notice another button. The original Xperia 5 also had an extra button, as the side fingerprint sensor couldn't be used as a power button. This flaw has been fixed in the Mark II series, even in the mid-budget Xperia 10 II.
At the same time, the Xperia 5 II should receive a 3.5mm jack (you can see it on the top), which was not in the original model.
The most important question - about the screen diagonal - we do not yet have an answer. The original Xperia 5 featured an elongated 6.1-inch 21: 9 Cinema Widescreen and is not a successor to the Z5 Compact or XZ1 Compact. Earlier leaks talked about a 5.6-5.8-inch diagonal, which could give the Xperia 5 II the title of the smallest 5G smartphone. But confirmation of this data has yet to wait.
Sony today confirmed a major Xperia-related announcement on September 17th. And there is no doubt that on this day we will be shown exactly the Xperia 5 II, given the absence of any leaks on other devices.

How not to recall the recent rumors about Sony's plans to return to the old strategy in the smartphone market with the release of three flagships: the base version, the Premium version, and the Compact version.
